How to use
- 1Enter a size and choose its unit.
- 2Optionally enter a connection speed.
- 3Read the size in every unit and the transfer times.
GB is decimal: 1 GB = 1,000,000,000 bytes. GiB is binary: 1 GiB = 1,073,741,824 bytes. Drive makers use GB and many operating systems show GiB, which is why a 1 TB disk shows about 931 GiB.
Line speeds are given in bits and a byte has 8 bits, so 100 Mbit/s is at most 12.5 MB/s.
It is the theoretical time at the full line rate. Protocol overhead, latency and congestion usually make real transfers 5–15% slower, often more.
